What an awesome evening! We had over 30 people show, Worth Marie LaRose played for us and after the first leader of the carols (*ahem* ... me) was quickly demoted a lovely lady, with a much better singing voice, led us in some of our all time favorite classic carols. Marshmallows, hot cocoa, cider and a big roaring fire kept us warm on a perfect Winter nite. Thanks to all our participants and those who contributed to the donations for Worth's wonderful music and singing. We hope to see all of you again soon! DFWA

DFWA Turner Falls Day Trip

We had a wonderful day for hiking at Turner Falls! The weather and temperature was just right. We hiked to a lesser known cave at the back at the park and it was obvious by the overgrowth of the trail there had not been anyone there in quite some time. I still managed to find it without the need for the GPS. However, upon entry I could see that some seismic activity in the area had caused some stones to become displaced. I checked out the rest of the area and set the rope for the rest of the group. We were within face view of several small bats and everyone seemed to think it was really a neat experience to be underground. Afterward we hiked back and then drove to Lake Murray where we attempted to go to Tucker Tower but it had already closed. Too bad because it is an awesome place with a great view of the lake, especially while the trees are turning. Not all was lost though, we managed to have a campfire at a park nearby and cook up some hotdogs. After everyone departed my dad and I stopped by Winstar and he managed to win $700, so I know he had a good time! I told him the drive back was going to cost more though! : )

We had a wonderful group and for once it didn't storm on us while hiking! This time we didn't go in the dark and got to see Screaming Bridge and Hell's Gate by light. One of our participants who was familiar with the park took us for a hike through the forest back to our cars. Seems like each time we go out to River Legacy there are a dozen new trails. It was beautiful weather with fun people! Thanks everyone! DFWA

DFWA Hell's Gate Haunted Hike

The DFWA Hell's Gate Haunted Hike was not for the meek! Our tough and weather rough members braved darkened clouds, lightning, down pours and an ocean of mud to trek out to see Screaming Bridge and Hell's Gate. Seems that often when this event meets bad weather rolls in. Personally I am not a big paranormal person but something I can't seem to explain is my GPS issues whenever I get close to either Screaming Bridge or Hell's Gate. Every time my GPS will either lock up, show us going in circles or backwards. This time a member had the same problems that I did! In regards to equipment failure this is truly an enchanted forest. Other than it raining and slogging through heaps of mud we made it and accomplished our goals. Hope to have as dedicated a group on future events! - DFWA

Hike for Homeless (H4H 2013) was a success despite the weather. Thanks to all of our participants who braved the weather for a good cause! The rain made it an adventure but also reminded us of some of the hardships of being homeless. We had a wonderful group who were a lot of fun! A big thanks to Cheron of DBS for helping organize, Kevin and our impromptu captains and RED, DBS and Bucket List for posting our event. See you all soon! - DFWA

We had a great time! We visited the Alien Cemetery and believe we found the site that was depicted in the UFO Hunters television show. Afterward we deviated from the plans and headed north to Decatur where we saw the Petrified Wood Gas Station and then happened on a car show on the Decatur Courthouse  Square. Lunch at Sweetie Pies Ribeyes was fantastic as usual and afterward we enjoyed a drive through the LBJ Grasslands. Everyone seemed to have a pleasant trip and are looking forward to our next adventure. DFWA
